A new chapter

The eleven AgustaWestland Da Vinci rescue helicopters flew on behalf of patients for 16 years. They are now being replaced with the new H145 D3 helicopters.

Rega is currently undergoing the biggest fleet renewal in its history. Already last year, all  the Rega lowland bases received one of a total of 21 new Airbus H145 D3 helicopters. In the meantime, the mountain bases in Locarno (Canton Ticino) and Erstfeld (Canton of Uri) have made the switch.

This new step requires precise planning and extensive retraining, as the new, more powerful aircraft differs in many ways from the Da Vinci.

 

Greater safety in the terrain

For missions in difficult terrain, the much higher rotor support offers greater safety for crews and other persons. The tail rotor of the Airbus H145 D3 is encased, which makes it safer and also quieter.

An all-rounder

The new H145 D3 rescue helicopter  is suited for both missions in the  high mountains as well as for complex medical patient transfers. The fifth  rotor blade provides not only for fewer vibrations in the cabin but also enables a greater load capacity. The crews benefit from a better performance and larger safety reserves when operating in the mountains.

Completely redesigned cabin

The larger cabin offers maximum flexibility, including for intensive-care special transports – for instance with a heart-lung machine or a transport incubator for premature babies. Improvements were developed, tested and implemented in collaboration with Aerolite to ensure that the crew can make the best-possible use of the cabin space for medical care. For example, a new storage system for medical equipment ensures a better overview.

Drawers and cupboards are designed and fitted to allow the crew to access medical supplies even more easily.

2Cabin layout

The cabin can be quickly reorganised for various scenarios. The seat next to the patient's bed has a swivel feature.

New, modern cockpit

Seen from the front, the differences are evident too. One clear difference is the large cockpit windows which, together with the ergonomic arrangement of the instruments, allow for a better view of the outside of close to 360 degrees.
