Swiss Air-Rescue Rega, to home page

Rega is the first European organisation to receive CAMTS accreditation

Swiss Air-Rescue Rega brings swift and professional emergency medical assistance by air. At the end of May 2016, Rega was granted accredited status by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). As a result, it is its first European organisation to be certified for aeromedical helicopter and ambulance jet operations, as well as for medically escorted repatriations.

CAMTS is an independent and international non-profit organisation that audits and accredits medical transport services according to a set of regularly updated, scientifically-based criteria. Having undergone a rigorous review procedure lasting several weeks, Rega received its CAMTS certificate at the end of May 2016. The accreditation remains valid for three years.

First organisation in Europe

“We consider the audit procedure conducted by CAMTS to be very credible and the accreditation standards path-breaking,” explains Rega CEO, Ernst Kohler. Currently only nine international companies worldwide fulfil the stringent specifications laid down by CAMTS. Rega is the first European organisation to receive accreditation for both its air rescue services by rescue helicopter and ambulance jet and its medically escorted repatriations. During the assessment process, not only the medical aspect was examined, but all the various areas of operation, including aeronautical and organisational components.

Consistency across all Rega bases

The auditors particularly highlighted the team spirit and smooth collaboration between Rega’s employees, as well as the uniform manner in which the required standards were implemented at each of the 13 Rega bases located throughout Switzerland. They were also impressed by the efforts that Rega is currently undertaking to realise its vision of all-weather air rescue.
