Pioneers, part 2 -- "Flying" dogs

After dogs had been successfully used to search for people buried under an avalanche, in the 1950s, Rega decided to also use them for rescue operations from the air -- which required them to accompany their handlers on parachute jumps. This was the first time that anyone had ever jumped out of an aircraft with a dog. Rega's pioneer rescuers recall the initial attempts to put this into practice. Find out more about the "flying" dogs in our spectacular historical film sequences.
