Calling out a rescue helicopter

Emergency no. 1414

Always call out Rega via the emergency number 1414 or the Rega app if you require immediate assistance by a rescue helicopter. For example, in the following cases:

  • Long journey for the rescue services
  • Access to/from the accident site is difficult or impossible
  • Suspected back injuries
  • Suspected heart attack
  • Suspected stroke
  • Severe burns
  • Amputations
  • Fall from a great height
  • Multiple casualties
  • Trapped persons
  • Seriously injured persons/Seriously ill children
  • Difficulty in breathing

Checklist for calling out a rescue helicopter: Emergency number 1414 or Rega app

  • Coordinates, e.g. GPS receiver, mobile phone
  • Canton, place, locality
  • Prominent landmarks nearby (mountains, buildings, streets, lakes, rivers, etc.)
  • Name and phone number for return call
  • How did the accident happen?
  • What did you see?
  • Number of casualties
  • Nature of their injuries
  • Is it possible to land a helicopter?
  • Obstacles, e.g. cables, power lines, antennae?
  • Visibility? Rain? Wind?

We need help!

We do not need help!

Landing site for the rescue helicopter:

  • Size: 25 x 25 metres, free of obstacles (no cables, power lines, etc.)

  • Approximately 100 metres away from the accident site

  • Remove any loose objects lying around (clothes, rucksacks, umbrellas, etc.)

  • When the helicopter is approaching, remain where you are, kneel down

  • Maintain eye contact with the pilot

  • Do not approach the helicopter until the rotor has come to a standstill
